White is othello

pip: 507 point match pip: 156

Blue is LyurixXGID=----aCCBBB-----------bccfC:1:1:1:00:3:3:0:7:10 Blue on roll, cube action?
eXtreme Gammon Version: 2.03
With the cube already on 2, losing a gammon here will cost Blue the match. Obviously, White is taking.
Blue has little to lose by doubling. It is possible that he could lose this game without losing a gammon, but much more often, he will lose the gammon.
Does Blue lose his market when White fails to escape immediately? Not likely. Even when Blue enters with doublets, it looks like White still has a take. A more realistic scenario for Blue to turn this around occurs when White leaves a blot on the 21pt (after rolling 53 43 22). Putting a second checker behind Blue’s 5-point block would certainly change the odds here. But isn’t Blue better off waiting to double until White leaves the shot? In many cases, White would still be taking then.
My instinct is to wait. The error either way is probably relatively small.
