important clarification for Noobs

I slot vs almost anyone at this score and then take the cube
Neil, you said nothing wrong, but just to be clear, we are talking two different animals here. The main thread is about when to not cube when your opponent has the free drop. You mentioned what you would do when you had the free drop.
It is incredibly important to never slot when your opponent has the free drop. They roll next, and if they hit they will then take the cube with a huge edge, while if they don't hit then they drop, and you gain nothing.
On the other hand, if you have the free drop, the cagey play is to always slot (i.e. with 21 41 or 51). If your opponent then forgets to cube (shit happens) on that turn, your gain in equity from slotting is astronomical if you can cover.
I'm sure you wouldn't make the mistake of slotting on the first roll when your opponent has the free drop, but some readers here might get confused.
