Simple Probability Problem

Could you explain to me how the percentiles (Percentage rank) are linked with probabilities, as they appear to be separate to me.

If the match length is lengthened considerably, the percentile points will tend to stay constant. However, the probability of each player will shift considerably (unless they were 50% against the field or close). The 75% player might become a 95% player and the 25% player a 5% player, changing the odds from 9 to 1 to higher than 1500 to 1.

However, as I understood it, the problem as originally posed related to a specific situation (match length or average match length) where two players where 75% and 25% against the field).
