David Rockwell is the 2012 Bar Point Club Champion!

Congratulations to David...it is no small feat to be the Bar Point Club Champion...close to 20 open players and many more fine players every Tuesday night and on special events. David has worked hard, in recent years to improve, while at the same time excelling at other mind games, and it's great to see hard work pay off.

You have to give Bill Davis a lot of credit for all of his consistent, hard work to run a great club in a great venue all these years. I believe the Bar Point Club PROVES that backgammon is not just about gambling and money--many of us get there as often as we can, rain or shine, and fight our hearts out just to win points to try to end up higher than Rory. (The son of a gun simply shows up too often and plays too well!) And that's the point...the point system rewards you not only for playing well, but for coming as much as possible. THAT IS WHAT THE GAME NEEDS UNIVERSALLY--more rewards for just showing up and for playing, not just rewards for the winners. (Look at Bridge, which gets upwards of 4,000 at it's nationals and thousands of people playing daily and they pay an entry fee and don't win a dime...only master points!)

What I will remember the most about 2012 is the loss of Peter Kalba. I have never known a funnier guy, but also never known a more kindhearted person. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.
