In the first position you concentrate on escaping. 14/12 24/23 makes a blocking point and starts the process of escaping from behind White's prime. White may hit but is short on covers.

In the second and third position, you double hit in the hope of making a valuable point. In the second position, you'd threaten to make a 5-prime, in the third position, a broken five prime including the 5-point. In the last position, you double if missed.
