Its as much knowing your opponent as anything else. Sometimes you can flip a high cube at an opponent, and know hes going to drop because he doesnt like the stakes anymore. Sometimes its worth beavering the marginal cubes to get the raccoon, and thusly making your later reship into a drop rather than a monstrous take.

Of course, this has been known to backfire a few times. Also, can be an expensive experiment. I personally much prefer this type of player than the one that drops everything that looks remotely gammonish.
