I think, in general, people overrate the value of shifting a builder from the 6-point to the 5-point when there are only 4 checkers on the 6-point. It's a decent way to play a stray ace but it's not really a constructive play in its own right.

Let's do this thought experiment with the original position. You play 13/9 with the 4. Now I give you the choice to either continue with 9/8, or simply pick up your dice. Where would you want that checker?
