In general, double hitting with an opening 41 is clearly correct in response to an opening split. This position differs from that in that Blue only has 4 checkers on the 6 point and 2 on the 8 point. It's not really urgent to unstack, since hitting would leave him with only 3 on the 6, and Blue has several other constructive plays with 41, which he doesn't on the first roll. It could still be right though, since Blue has the stronger board, I don't know.
My play would probably be 24/20 6/5 or 13/9 6/5. I just don't really like the look of the double hit. Judging by others' comments though, I'm thinking the best play is 13/8, which I probably would have missed.
