the choices:
rip 4 - 2/off(4)
rip 3 - 4/off 2/off(2)
rip 2 - 4/off(2)
clear the four point - 4/2(4)
leave unnecessary blots - 4/off 4/2(2)

I don't like leaving unnecessary blots, so i don't think that play is correct. Ripping off 4 leaves an ugly gap that white could claim, making the rest of the bearoff especially difficult.

I think I'd just clear the four point and hope for the best. So I'd rank the plays as follows:

clear the four point - 4/2(4)
rip 2 - 4/off(2)
rip 3 - 4/off 2/off(2)
rip 4 - 2/off(4)
leave unnecessary blots - 4/off 4/2(2)
