I posted this [as a] 'checkerplay' problem ...

Right. But doesn’t cube position play a paramount part in the choice of checker plays?

With a centered cube, play safe with 6/1 2/1, so that nothing, except a 66 by White, can upset your plan to double next turn.

With your opponent owning the cube at 2, hit and cover with 8/3*/2, as that is your strongest play when the game must be played to a conclusion.
