Left or Right? Does it matter?

What matters most is that the rule is clear. If the rule was changed, I would have no problems whatsoever with the new rule.

All the same, there are a number of minor issues I see that counts against changing it:

  • There is nothing wrong with the existing rule, either, and if it ain't broke don't fix it!
  • (As mentioned by others, ) the existing rule works better in an unclocked, 2 dice-set setting. I would definitely not like havung one rule for clocked and another for unclocked matches
  • Having the dice rolled on the right makes it easier for spectators to see whose turn it is, esp. when you just look at a photo of the position
