Left or Right? Does it matter?

What matters most to me is that the rule is clear, and then it must be followed and enforced. I play in a game that says that the roll is legal no matter where it lands so long as it is inside of the board. It can be on the bar, on a checker, and even in the bear off tray. It can even be "semi-cocked" just like dice on a crap table that call a roll valid even if it is on edge. The only time we roll over is if it is off the table and it is cocked in such as way as there really is no clear, predominant number to be seen. In 20 years of playing this way we have never had a disagreement.

Currently the rules require the dice to be on one side, and I believe it is very wrong to accept a roll on the other side. Some times players ask for the right to roll on the other side, and they agree to it, and I believe that should not be allowed for a variety of reasons.

The best solution is for everyone to use a Simborg Baffle Box, and though I am completely impartial and it is a coincidence that it bears my name, I think this solves a lot of problems and highly recommend it.
