I'm probably going to be wrong, but I'll give it a try (I am not master level). My play is 15/10* 8/7. I think a middle-of-the-road play is probably best. I don't want to play too aggressively--I don't have any advanced anchor, I have fewer points in my home board, and my opponent will probably make his 5 or bar point before me. So that means I don't want to slot my 5 point. But I don't want to play too conservatively either--my opponent has three blots in his board and I have more men back. So that means I don't want to play 15/14 or 10/9 (after the hit) for the one. The hit is a must. And my preference when my opponent has one man back is to make the bar (which Magriel says is usually, though not always, the best with one man back), so slotting it feels right for my style.
