In Response To: Look at all the Giants coming to my tournament!!! (Bob koca)

I won't debate any of the points made by Jason, Timothy, or Bob -- all have some degree of validity. I do know many players, particularly in a region of the country without an ABT event in forever, want to meet Mochy or Falafel or Kazaross or others and watch them play. They would like to have Magriel or Robertie or others autograph their books. I have had any number of players express their excitement in having the opportunity to play in a tournament with, and meet, players of this significance and reknown -- if only to watch some of their matches. This, more often than not, includes Advanced and Novice players rather than Championship players.

As Jason notes, the presence of Giants adds a certain credibility and prestige to a tournament. I don't think that demeans anyone else. I play in a dozen or more ABT events each year and I've yet to hear my name advertised as an attendee and/or a draw -- I don't expect it, I don't deserve it. However, if a director can enhance the tournament and the tournament experience for all by noting the attendance of the notable players of the game, I'm all for it. I doubt that many global participants in the game would bother to watch streaming of a Riles vs. Joe Schmo match; however, a great number might watch Mochy vs. Falafel, Neil vs. Weaver, or matches between any of the other Giants -- that is a good thing, a good thing for the game.

The growth and popularity of all games and sports focus on 'stars'. We should recognize that and embrace it. Mochy and Falafel and the others are great ambassadors of the game. Almost without exception, the Giants are personable, approachable, and willing to engage the new and the inexperienced. That only helps our great game.

Again, I do not intend to slight or offend anyone; however, I will not apologize for promoting the tournament in the best available manner, in my opinion, to make it a better experience for all.
