However, I hope you will also admit that people go to the game to see the DiMaggios and Gehrigs -- though the game couldn't go on without Johnny Blanchard behind the plate, Tom Tresh at shortstop, and Ryne Duren tossing the pellet; in addition to the entire lineup of the Kansas City athletics on the other side of the field. Fairly or not, the stars draw the crowds.

If they're going to see... they're going to see DiMaggio and Gehrig. If they're going to play... well, I dunno. I love going up against DiMaggio, but my ERA is going to suffer if I have to pitch to him all the time.
