Top 10 Reason Not to Allow Computers in Tournaments*

1. It's harder for kibitzers to watch.
2. It takes away from the atmosphere of the room.
3. It's harder for Director (or kibitzers) to see that proper procedure is being followed.
4. It splits the field in two, with different competitors playing under different conditions.
5. Some players may feel pressured to play on computer when they don't want to.
6. It makes face-to-face tournaments more like online tournaments. Why pay hundreds of dollars to attend a tournament when you could do the same thing at home on your computer?
7. Having computers around leads to the possibility of cheating.
8. There are no standard rules for playing on computer. Does computer enforce legal moves? Does computer show pip count? Does computer roll dice?
9. It introduces another piece of equipment you have to buy and bring along to a tournament if you want to enjoy the same advantages that others have.
10. It is not environmentally friendly.
