Backgammon - Homosexual meaning?

Recently on a TV programme here in the UK, 'Ripper Street' based upon Jack the Ripper's reign one of the main characters was trying to establish the cause of several mysterious deaths. It transpired that the 'virus' was probably passed on between a bunch of men who frequented a male bordello for man-on-man sex.

When discovering the possible link the main character asked, "Well, have these men been engaging in backgammon or not?" He wasn't referring to playing it!

After more than 30 years involvement with the game I have never heard of it being used to describe a homosexual act. Has anyone else - or have I led a very sheltered life? :-)
