Magriel's strategic criteria is "which side has more checkers back," not which side is ahead in the race.
Technically you're right of course. But I think of Magriel's criteria as a special case of the principle that if you're doing poorly in some aspect of the game, then losing even more ground doesn't hurt you that much, relatively speaking. The main problem with leaving a blot is that you might get hit. This hurts because you might dance (board strength) or even get closed out (anchor), but also because it sets you back in the race (another checker back). As I believe you're also saying with your molehill comment, one shouldn't be too procrustean in defining Magriel's criteria.
Our racing lead only helps if we are able to disengage and enter into a race and that rates to be pretty hard to do if we make the 23-point with this roll.
This comment doesn't make sense to me. We don't have a racing lead. We're trailing in the race.
