I know that different users have different needs for apps on iPad, so it is difficult to give you correct feedback if you do not say what you need XG mobile for. I provide some feedback based mostly on my needs and your question about chouette. Of course my feedback would be completely different if for example you have asked for visuals/sounds.

1) I use it daily. I play a lot vs it. In the tube, while waiting at queues or even in bed late at night. Ipad is far easier and much faster to use than a laptop.

2) The iPad interface, makes it quicker and easier to get a good understanding of a position by moving checkers around than if you do the same process with a laptop.

3)Its strength is very close to the pc version.

4) It is good if you want to check often plays on the fly (for a chouette as you say), exactly because it is faster than to use a laptop. However you can not see more than the top 5 moves. So your move might be correct, but still you will not see an evaluation for it at all. Forget 4 ply, XG+, XG++ or rollouts. You are stuck with whatever ply evaluation the bot believes is enough for the position. This means that you can be stuck with a 1 ply evaluation of a position and still your might not even see an evaluation of your choice because it did not make it to the top 5 of the 1 ply filter. But in reality the probability of this scenario is very small. 9 out of ten times you will be happy with the evaluation XG mobile provides. For a bet though you will defenitely need a pc and a rollout.

5) I was using Gnu backgammon, but started using XG mobile because Ipad is far more convinient than a PC and GNU makes some small checker play errors that are completely unintuitive and this was confusing me. XG mobile does not make such errors.

6) Of course XG mobile makes errors even big ones, so if you play against it, I would advise to send your matches versus XG via email to your self and then analyse the plays you are unsure with a GNU or XG rollout.
