I am not really sure how much we are supposed to play this sort of Nackgammon opening like a backgame. With the race a near tie, my inclination is to play forward, using the 2 to break our rear anchor.

After that, slotting is a real temptation. White could hit a slot with any 3 or 4, plus 22 and 21. If we break our 9pt instead, we will be hit when White rolls an unblocked 7 or 8. That’s any 7, plus any 8 except 53, for a total of 10 hits.

Let’s opt for the lesser risk.
