Gammon Save Play 52

An anchor is indeed excellent insurance against a gammon, but we have only one checker back here, so we can't anchor (unless we get a second checker back, but we're not going to do that intentionally since that will usually decrease our winning chances substantially).
The idea behind building a board is to hit a White checker and contain it. I think that's our best way to win the game.
After seeing your play, though, I was reminded of a position that I posted here recently, where it was important to advance 24/22 in order to avoid getting attacked by White's stacks of checkers on her 5pt and 6pt. So that might be the right idea here too.
