I can’t say I necessarily know the right play here, but my approach is this:

Since Blue trails in the race, he will probably have to hit if he is to win. After hitting, he will need his 5pt in order to slow down or contain the checker(s) he hits. Ergo, make the 5pt.

Making a second inner board point also gives Blue the advantage in board strength. That will help retard any attack White may make by hitting loose. In any exchange of hits, Blue will have the upper hand.
