Thanks for the example rollout. I tried a similar approach (before you posted your example) but without white hitting back and that was not a cube. Unfortunately, I didn't save the position. So, it seems my analysis that it's not a cube until a second checker is picked up is incorrect - it's a cube as soon as blue gets a shot from the bar with three blots.

One of the traits of good players is the ability to look ahead a couple moves and see the (correct) cube action. I'm still struggling with that, as you can see.
