If White had a two-roll position then 18/10 would be clear since it would allow you to bear off with both 66 and 55 rather than just 66.
Both 55 and 66 bear off a checker after either play.

If you play 18/10 then any 2 or 1 will mean you'll lose one of your crossovers. This fact should tip the balance in favor of 18/13 15/12. That is, it's so important here to get crossovers that it's worth putting a checker on the 13pt even though that's normally a "wasteful" location for it.
This seems obvious, as Stick said, now that you point it out. But it's what I was missing. Thanks.
When you roll this out, I'd suggest changing the roll to 22 so that putting the checkers on the 14pt and 11pt is also an option.
This is a good practice in these situations. I hadn't thought of it. Again, thanks.
