Kleinman on saving the gammon

This thread made me pull out my copy of Vision Laughs at Counting. In that book, Kleinman has a good discussion of saving the gammon, and includes a chart of positions like this one. I recommend it.

I have one small emendation to my previous post. It was from Kleinman that I got the idea that putting a checker on the 13pt was "wasteful," but after looking at his chart and playing around a bit, I now think that this is a misleading statement. Usually the 13pt is a perfectly reasonable place to put a checker, unless you already have a checker there or unless there's an alternative play that gets you an extra crossover.
