"I would not mind playing these giants if the entry fee were not so high. It’s $80 to play in the open here. Frankly, that is more than I care to pay for a drubbing I can get for free just by turning on XG. Director Ted Chee is nice enough to let me enter at $40, which I appreciate, and he adjusts any prizes I win accordingly. But I still have the feeling that I am just there to contribute the discretionary entertainment funds of the stronger players."

Define "not so high" please. I think that many local clubs have a weekly or biweekly tournament with about a $20 entry. Would that work for you?
