Let me see if I understand this.. Stick who averages according to the list I saw 2.31 PR at times says he can average under 2 and at other times says it is not possible? I know Wells said he avged I believe under 2 in a series of money matches on gamesgrid. So I am confused I suppose on exactly what Stick is trying to say. 2.31 is obviously closer to 2.0 then 3.0. http://www.bgonline.org/forums/webbbs_config.pl?noframes;read=112692
My opinion is this.. 7 years ago when I started playing Backgammon Snowie 3 was the bot of choice. Since then we have had Snowie 4 and Gnu being updated and made stronger over time and finally the introduction of XG and its recent update. With each increase in technology of the neural net bots the previous versions were found to have made mistakes or were weak in certain areas. Let us say hypothetically that someone does avg 1.6 for 100 7 point matches today. In 10 years let us also assume bot technology has increased the way it has in the previous 7 years. What will that avg of today be in the future? I guess I am saying it all relative to the time. Is it possible? Yes.. I think someone can do it today. At some point I assume there will be a figure such as Magnus Carlsson who is just for lack of a better phrase a backgammon savant.
