I'm not sure, but I think White's open 4pt, which he will likely never make, makes it right to play 8/4*, even at gs. Blue needs a hit, and if he doesn't hit now, he may not have another chance. If Blue is hit back, he is a favorite to reenter. He may still contain White's checker and has good chances to run off the gammon otherwise.
