There is very little distinction between Apple's developer license and App Store acceptance policy as compared to the Amazon offerings like the Kindle/Kindle Fire etc. Both Apple iOS and Amazon devices are considered closed platforms (excluding invalidating your devices license agreement by rooting them). Both have draconian policies that are rather similar. Some GPLv2/v3 applications not allowed on Apple's App Store are allowed on the Kindle store if they are Lesser GPL licensed.
At least with most open Android hardware, you have a choice of many distribution outlets, including APKs which allow you to pretty much put what you want on the device as a local file install (although that software does have to adhere to the standard EULA for the device, but is not overly restrictive).
If you want a more open Android based tablet than one might wish to look at the Galaxy Tab or even the Galaxy Note.
