It takes an awful lot of 1,5s to make up for 1 match where the player only managed a 5.

True but I believe there will be a player soon (or more maybe) who will very rarely play a 5 and play a lot more 1.5's.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the top giants are happy to be clustered together with similar PR's and really don't want somebody to come along and break away from the pack and set the bar higher hence the "It can't be done" comments.

Time will tell.

As an aside if there were somebody quietly battering down his PR (not appearing at tournaments or online) and he's reading this thread he's be a fool to announce it as he could probably make a substantial amount wagering on it.
