Playing under 2.0

I agree that if the pool of backgammon players were much larger, given a sufficient amount of time and interest, someone would eventually better whatever mark were set. And to some extent money makes the world go round. What I don't agree with is the mentality that an individual can play 2.0 if he just tries harder. He probably just can't, or he would have done it already.
Also, in chess, a team of assistants and computer analysts is useful largely for preparing opening novelties and practicing specific positions. In backgammon you can't predict what is going to happen beyond the first roll or two.
