John Schmidt believes that today's top pros would be able to match or beat Mosconi's record if there was sufficient financial incentive.

It is along the same lines as what you're saying for backgammon PR. However, the difference is that Mosconi - a human - actually did achieve the feat of potting 526 in a run, whereas no human has been close to averaging below 2.0 in backgammon.

I think it sounds kind of hollow when you say it would be easy to average below 2.0 if there was sufficient money in it. Several players have offered to bet against it happening. Bill even offered a 10K freeroll.
