Memorizing reference positions

It should be mentioned that memorizing reference positions is not the most important backgammon skill. We all know it is memorizing opening replies through the third roll. (I guess those could be called reference positions though so maybe reference positions is the most important skill).
I think what might be interesting is a test of how much memorization could conceviably help. If I find the time I might play a unck of games normal and then a bunch of games in which I have access to my match equity notes on doubing points etc, a list of openings and replies equities, and say Kit's encyclopedia on reference positions and other assorted ones including a few such as EPC refereence positions and see how much it helps.
