I'd be more comfortable slotting if we were further behind in the race, and if White's 4's would be disastrous for us anyway. But here, we still have ordinary holding-game vig, and I'd prefer not to have another checker sent back if White rolls a 4. Some of White's 4's make her 4pt so there's some duplication, but White is more interested in making her bar point so the duplication doesn't look that strong.

The trouble is that our non-slotting plays are a little awkward. 6/4 is is perhaps the prettiest non-slotting 2, but it requires entering with the ugly stacking bar/22. Bar/23 seems more flexible and then leaves us with 7/4. Also, Magriel's criteria would suggest playing boldly.

Not sure. I'll go with my first instinct of playing safe with bar/23 7/4.
