I have always heard that Backgammon was roughly 65-35% Skill vs Luck. That is why the best players win generally 65-70% of the time. It has been my experience that winning with a negative luck factor is indeed hard. I am not sure if 93% figure is right although it could be. I think there is skill in placing your checkers in places where good rolls can be used for the best advantage and maybe considered "lucky". Chess is very different. You will simply not beat someone who is a better player than you are unless they are drunk or not paying attention.
