he advantage I'm looking for is to be playing with no men back versus White's one man back.

Looked at another way, your play creates a nice spare on the 8pt, but that spare is of limited use if I'm on the bar or trying to scramble the back man to safety. If I run the back man now, it, or a checker from the midpoint or 11pt, is likely to end up on the 8pt soon enough anyway, and at that point, I'll be ready to use it.
