How many pro BG players?

I can come up with a list of names of people who may have earned a million dollars from backgammon in one way or another. This would include tournament wins, money sessions, teaching, writing, and directing. My list has fewer than twenty names and some of them probably did not hit that target, but I include them as remote possibilities, e.g. Andreas Martens, who has probably won more from tournament play than anyone in history. He won $600,000 in one tournament, so has to be considered as one of the "possibles" even while doubting he earned another $400,000 during the whole rest of his backgammon career. Gus Hansen is also on the list, because he is rumored to have played for $20,000 a point, proving that if you want to earn a million dollars playing backgammon, it helps to have millions of dollars already. And as devoted readers of BG Online recall, Peter Jes and Alex Lehman are alleged to have found yet another way of earning millions. On the other hand, I had years where my primary source of income was backgammon, and I never made more than twenty or twenty-five grand from backgammon in any year.
