(1) Not sure I see Ed's point or why you quote it. If I am a winning tournament player I am taking the losers' money just as surely as if we were playing them in chouettes or heads-up money games. You can quibble that the stakes are not comparable, but that's not relevant to the ethics of the matter.

(2) If you think that exploiting the "addictions" of others "can never be an ethical and recommended life choice," I hope you prepared to condemn not only all gambling, but also all pornography, all producers and vendors of alcoholic beverages, all producers and vendors of candy, sodas, and fast foods, most movies and tv shows, the entire fashion industry, and most social media. I hope, in fact, that you prepared to condemn capitalism itself, or at least propose a program to reform it so thoroughly that you will not be allowed to provide people with anything they want unless it is good for them!
