random vs. non-random rolls

I believe Stein's comment is true. Place the dice into a cup, even one without lips, don't shake, and drop them gingerly on the table, and it's still a random, fair roll.
However, the above assumes that the player did not make a set placement of the dice and was not trying to manipulate the roll.
Following the proper rules of rolling, by shaking 3 times and dropping them from a height so they bounce and roll, or by using a baffle box or dice tube, assures us that there was no hanky panky.
I will go a step further. Even when I am playing the most honest opponents who I would trust completely, since I tend to believe that less shaking and less than a legal roll could result in more repeats of a previous roll, or more doubles, even though the player might not have that intent, it bothers me when the rules are not followed. And that is why I am such a proponent of the baffle box. I am never worried whether they shake the dice or not, and they can even forgo using cups if they want to (so long as they drop the dice from a height above the box and not place them carefully in the box).
