but more importantly, most people's ethical concerns about gambling have nothing to do with the issue of whether their opponents will lose their self-control. I believe that it is more a matter of the guilty complex: "I am not contributing to society and when I win I am stealing bread from my brother's mouth."

O.K., that might be true in general. But neither higonefive nor Smcrtorchs gave this reason. higonefive wrote:

In gambling for money, there is a thin line between fun and addiction. And exploiting the addiction of some one can never be an ethical and recommended life choice.

Some people … cannot play just for the fun of the game. They do not act well when they loose money and this clearly means that they should not bet, but they cannot stop betting. I do not want to take anyone's money under these circumstances. If someone has a character weakness from which he/she is suffering, then I do not want to capitalise on it. … It is possible that people can play backgammon for money and not care if they loose. I would not mind playing such people if I was sure that this was the case.
