I'm going to install Ubuntu on one of my computers. There are legal methods (such as Wine and Crossover projects) which allow one to run MS-Windows apps on LINUX systems without needing MS-Windows itself. I don't know how hard it would be to get SW running this way, though. However, I bet there are people in the BG community smart enough to do this.
I use Linux exclusively in my house (Debian -- the source for Ubuntu). I just tried to install the Snowie demo using Wine but the program would not run. I then tried to use it with Cedega (a commercially supported version of Wine at $55 a year) and it also failed to start. There is also VMware which creates a virtual Windows OS in your Linux system but that's like $190 and requires a licensed version of Windows and only plays games up to DirectX 8 or some such.
All that said, I know absolutely nothing about configuring Wine so perhaps it is possible to get Snowie working in Linux but it just might take a little work. I am surprised that it isn't working with either Wine or Cedega as it must be a pretty simple program when it comes to the tricky stuff (like 3-D graphics and media playback). I'd be willing to bet that someone familiar with Wine could get it working.
