Clocks

I guess, when we learn that clocks measure time, and are not invented as a tool to torment backgammon players. we can introduce schedule of rounds say: round 1 begins 15.00 round 2 begins 17.00 etc.

Director walks by every table 10 minutes after the start and if no one present or no clock running - enters loss for both players.

Thus could the precedence of tourney over side events be implemented.
