I would double. Big race lead, White has four checkers back and one on the bar, Blue has no structural weaknesses. Of course, White is anchored and has her 5pt, and Blue still has three checkers back, so it's an easy take.

According to XG, about 8% of my errors are due to wrong doubles and 6% are due to missed doubles. I've been experimenting with dialing back my aggressive doubling strategy, but whenever I do, it seems that I fall into the trap you describe, which is that I lose more equity from missed doubles than from premature doubles. From a practical point of view I think it's definitely better to err a little more on the side of doubling too much than on the side of doubling too little.
