As Michael points out, your basic criticism makes no sense because the original study used GNU rollouts and still concluded that XG was better.

I think the whole bg community just has assumed that XG is the best, eventhough we don't know if it is true. Maybe it is time for some scepticism in the bg community.

I agree that the BG community is on average not skeptical enough of XG, but it's clear that the Depreli studies give good evidence of XG's superiority even though they're not definitive (and Depreli would not claim that they're definitive).
