Yeah, I think we're used to consider making the 3-point over the 2-point as the "pure" and correct play in these sorts of positions. Most players would probably do that without too much thought.

I just find it less important to play pure like this, when I have made my ace early. Then focus is on wrapping up the board ASAP.

Also, regarding pure play, I find it particular effective against weaker opponents. So if the pure play seams borderline at best - it could be still be the right choice against a weak opponent IMHO.
