Seems very close to me. I can't imagine a third checker back wins many more games, and you're not guaranteed to hit it anyway. On the other hand, the cost of staying is pretty minimal and White doesn't have a board, so getting hit late in the bear-off (due to the third checker) isn't apt to cost you much either. I'd be content to hit one and move on to the 17pt, but I'm not sure.
