If you can tell from some reference position that you know (the 9 pt makes White's game clearly better than without it) that if you play safe with bar/18 you'd have a close pass of a cube, then perhaps you can see to risk hitting as the opp has only a 2 pt board.

This wouldn't be easy OTB. I appologize for not replying earlier as I missed this thread completely.
