I didn't want to give it too much away in the title, but the "theme" I can't seem to learn is when to hit deep in my board. I so hate putting checkers deep that I have found that I am making blunders when it turns out that a deep hit is called for. In this case, it just never would have occurred to me to hit 6/1*. We're outboarded and ahead in the race! Thank you, Neil for explaining why it's correct here. If anyone has any suggestions they would care to share on what criteria to look for that would make deep hits appropriate it's much appreciated. Preferably in the form of a magic pill I can swallow and just know from now on. Many thanks to those of you that took a shot at this.
