Backgammon is a game where you need to put pressure on your opponent.

Slotting is like saying: roll a 6 NOW or die. This play puts a lot more pressure on the opponent than 13/9 since you will "always" make the 7p when he fails to hit you. After 13/9 you are not even a favourite to make it if he fails to hit you.

Also, the slot dupes his 61 and 26.
