I agree that GU and BGO OLMs are must for every serious student of game (with later Snowie rollouts and analyze by Greg are even better) but this is different format than reading whole annotated match regardless online or in book.
Also I admit these two very best BG forums on the Net improve my understanding of the game a lot but I think everyone who is serious about game have to read all accessible resources.
I don't agree with Chuck that once annotated matches were rarity in BG literature. Maybe you thought about '70s, Chuck?
Right now Tom Keith's Backgammon Galore is not accessible so I can't be more precise but in 80's there is Ken Goulding series of world class players annotated matches, Robertie wrote Genud vs Dwek and Reno books, there are very praised Roy Friedmann book, Kenney/Papazian Backgammon Masters Games and many Kleinman's books has annotated matches too (I don't like his missing players names there.)
In 90's in prebot era there are more Kleinman's books with annotated games and matches; Kit's Match Quiz three books, Orthega's Costa Rica '93 and '94 although they used Jellyfish in '94.
Also in Inside Backgammon issues there were always annotated games and in last one there is interesting annotated match commented by K.Goulding between Magriel and Leverman.
In bot era there are Kit's Master vs Amateur book, Orthega book with Neil's matches and comments. Also book with Jerry Grandell's matches. But Marty Storer Praxis made standard among books with annotated matches IMHO.
I can't forget first annotated online match Woolsey vs Bagai with TD gammon analyze (very funny comments by TD). There are Marty Storer annotated match at Gammon Village Tardieu vs Senkiewich which precede Praxis. Also there is Neil vs Sax match on GV with Snowie rollouts and Neil's and Steve's comments, very valuable. On the same site you can find more Sax matches commented by himself and accompanied by Snowie's rollouts. As I remember there is one Tardie's match vs Donald Kahn commented by himself on GV.
There are plenty of annotated matches by Kit in GoL archive from World Cup. One can find WC final match from MC between Tisonna and Royset annotated by panel of GoL's experts with GNUbg rollouts. There is also special annotated match from ProAm semifinal between Ballard and Wolsey teams with Snowie rollouts. At last you can read all GoL OLMs with Kit's comments and Snowie rollouts. Hm, I forgot Ballard vs Grandell in Robertie's Modern Backgammon. Uh, Walter Trice has some interested annotated matches on GV too, Robertie vs Grandell, Kazaross vs Simborg, few old matches and one more Robertie's match (something like Master vs Amateur).
In short I think that if someone want to improve it is better for him to read all this materials than not but if I have to choose something among these huge amount this is my choice:
1) Marty Storer: Backgammon Praxis Vol I,II (Malcolm Davis matches) 2) Kit Woolsey: Ballard/Huvie vs Woolsey/Arnold (GoL) 3) Bill Robertie: Grandell vs Ballard (in Modern Backgammon book) 4) Kazaross vs Sax (their comments and Snowie rollouts at Gammon Village)
But I think that online matches between Kit Woolsey and GOL readers with Kit's comprehensive comments and annotations are the most valuable existing material for study and that is out of this category.
